The Big Lie

I used to play this statement in my mind over and over again.

“If I can change something about my body, others will finally accept me and I will be able to accept myself.”

So many girls say this to themselves. In fact, more than 90 percent of girls 15 to 17 years want to change at least one aspect of their physical appearance, with body weight ranking the highest. (Dove Global Beauty Study)

If only I had bigger lips, a smaller nose, a thinner waist, slender thighs, a flat stomach, higher cheekbones … guys at school would notice me, my husband would appreciate me more, my kids will think I’m cooler, people would look at me more.

Ladies, these thoughts are complete lies.

Esther 2:15 & 17 (MSG) ”When it was Esther’s turn to go to the king, she asked for nothing other than what Hegai, the king’s eunuch in charge of the harem, had recommended. Esther, just as she was, won the admiration of everyone who saw her. 17The king fell in love with Esther far more than with any of his other women or any of the other virgins—he was totally smitten by her. He placed a royal crown on her head and made her queen in place of Vashti.”

Esther didn’t have to be anybody but who she was. You are beautiful JUST AS YOU ARE.

There is a sad story about a girl you may know of, Heidi Montag, who spent over $30,000 on the following 10 surgeries:

1: MINI BROW LIFT

2: BOTOX IN FOREHEAD AND FROWN AREA

3: NOSE JOB REVISION

4: FAT INJECTIONS IN CHEEKS, NASOLABIAL FOLDS AND LIPS

5: CHIN REDUCTION

6: NECK LIPOSUCTION

7: EARS PINNED BACK

8: BREAST AUGMENTATION REVISION

9: LIPOSUCTION ON WAIST, HIPS AND INNER AND OUTER THIGHS

10: BUTTOCK AUGMENTATION (People Magazine, 2010)

Here is the before and after picture. I think she looked way prettier before the surgery. Heidi, only 23 at the time of the surgery, looks like she is in her 40’s, not 20’s.

People Magazine asked Heidi soon after her surgery how she felt about her breasts. Heidi said ‘I’m already planning my next surgery-I’m determined to get bigger ones!’

There is never a place she can reach where she will say, ‘I am perfect’. She is attaining for something that isn’t even reachable. What Heidi didn’t realize was that she was beautiful JUST AS SHE WAS. She didn’t have to spend that crazy money to attain perfection. Her creator already gave her beauty.

I want you ladies out there to know that God has already given you beauty. You are gorgeous JUST AS YOU ARE. Don’t give into the lie that you have to change something about yourself to be accepted. Beautiful one… you are accepted!

Recently Heidi said this in an interview: “I would never do it again and I would never recommend it for anyone.” (toofab.com)

So don’t give into the BIG lie. Know that your beauty comes from God.

Love,

Alyssa
