Magic Mike & Fifty Shades
Magic Mike is a movie that hit theaters June 29th. Set in the world of male strippers, Magic Mike is directed by Steven Soderbergh and stars Channing Tatum in a story inspired by his real life. The film follows Mike (Tatum) as he takes a young dancer called The Kid (Pettyfer) under his wing and schools him in the fine arts of partying, picking up women, and making easy money. — (C) Warner Bros.
So a movie about male strippers, partying, picking up women and money. Hmm….. as a Christian is this something I should be watching?
Fifty Shades of Grey is a novel that has sold 31 million copies worldwide and it has only been out for 1 year. It is an erotic novel by British author E. L. James. Set largely in Seattle, it is the first instalment in a trilogy that traces the deepening relationship between a college graduate, Anastasia Steele, and a young business magnate, Christian Grey. It is notable for its explicitly erotic scenes featuring elements of sexual practices involving bondage/discipline, dominance/submission, sadism/masochism (BDSM).1
While looking into why this novel has been so popular, I found that women are flocking to read about how to spice up their sex lives. When in truth the sex in this novel is perverted and twisted.
“There’s more to sex than mere skin on skin. Sex is as much spiritual mystery as physical fact. As written in Scripture, “The two become one.” Since we want to become spiritually one with the Master, we must not pursue the kind of sex that avoids commitment and intimacy, leaving us more lonely than ever—the kind of sex that can never “become one.” There is a sense in which sexual sins are different from all others. In sexual sin we violate the sacredness of our own bodies, these bodies that were made for God-given and God-modeled love, for “becoming one” with another. Or didn’t you realize that your body is a sacred place, the place of the Holy Spirit? Don’t you see that you can’t live however you please, squandering what God paid such a high price for? The physical part of you is not some piece of property belonging to the spiritual part of you. God owns the whole works. So let people see God in and through your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:16-20 (MSG)
Fifty Shades of Grey is about sex that has no commitment. The main character Christian Grey insists that Ana sign a non-disclosure agreement, and an agreement that their relationship be only physical and not romantic. BDSM is not the way God designed sex to be. Sex should be romantic and intimate between only a husband and a wife. Only then is it completely fulfilling. There should be no violence, abuse, dominance, machismo and especially no bondage. Love doesn’t dominate, love binds you,and love should be the focus. Don’t let your views on sex be warped by the words on the pages of Fifty Shades of Grey. God has an amazing sex life planned for you that is between just you and your husband. When you read novels like this one, it puts in you desires that are sinful… which leads me to the lust driven movie Magic Mike.
Channing Tatum is the name on almost every girl’s lips. “Lets watch all the Channing Tatum movies this weekend, AHHH he is beyond HOTTTT!”
His latest movie Magic Mike is about guys stripping, and you want me to believe you aren’t thinking about them sexually?
Jesus was very clear on what He thinks of this in Matthew 5:8 “But don’t think you’ve preserved your virtue simply by staying out of the bed. Your heart (mind) can be corrupted by lust even quicker than your body. Those leering looks you think nobody notices- they are also corrupt.” MSG
and then the NIV says “But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman (man) lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
Would you want your future husband reading Fifty Shades and subjecting you to BSDM with no romance or commitment? Would you want your future husband to watch a movie about female strippers?May I just be real with you and lay it all out on the table? Let me ask you, why do you scold men for porn, when reading books like Fifty Shades of Grey and watching movies like Magic Mike have the same effect on you? This is called LUST & this is a SIN! Do not be fooled by others (including Christians) who watch these movies and read these books thinking that there is nothing wrong with it. I hear girls say “It’s not like I am actually going to these places and doing the things they are doing…” A sin is a sin to God, whether you are looking at guys with lust or having premarital sex.
Ladies, hold high standerds for yourself. Don’t allow your eyes and mind to run wild with lust that the world is offering you. You are set apart!
Believing for a generation to take a stand against lust!!
